Elakizhi, also known as Patra Pinda Sweda, is a traditional Ayurvedic therapy that involves the application of herbal poultices to the body. The term “Elakizhi” is derived from two Sanskrit words: “Ela,” which means leaves, and “Kizhi,” which means bolus or poultice. This therapeutic procedure is widely used to alleviate pain, inflammation, and various musculoskeletal disorders. Elakizhi is often recommended as part of Panchakarma, the Ayurvedic system of detoxification and rejuvenation.
Elakizhi is a classical Ayurvedic massage in which medicinal leaves are used to tackle joint pain, arthritis, muscle cramps and stress. Elakizhi massage treatments can be done in a perfectly healthy person also in order to improve his/her immunity system, vitality and longevity of life. Elakizhi massage treatments can be offered in different combinations depending on the direction of the physician. Each of these combinations give a curative and rejuvenating effect after being treated by a specified period and repeated after specified intervals.

The Preparation of Herbal Oil:

- The therapists use a variety of strokes and pressures during the massage to ensure the even application of heat and herbal properties. The poultices are rhythmically tapped, pounded, and massaged over the entire body.
- Elakizhi is particularly focused on areas with pain, stiffness, or specific health concerns. Common areas include the back, neck, shoulders, joints, and muscles
- After the completion of Elakizhi, the individual may be advised to rest for a short period to allow the body to absorb the medicinal properties of the herbs.
