Do you often feel a burning sensation in your chest or throat? Bloated after meals? Burping or experiencing sour taste in the mouth? These are clear signs of acidity, a common modern-day digestive imbalance that can be easily managed with age-old Ayurvedic remedies right from your kitchen.
Let’s explore some effective home remedies that can soothe your digestive fire and restore your inner balance.
Home Remedies for Acidity
Fennel Seeds (Saunf) Water
Soak 1 tsp of fennel seeds overnight in a cup of water. Drink this water in the morning on an empty stomach.
Why it works: Fennel is known to reduce acid levels and calm the stomach lining.
Coriander Seeds (Dhaniya) Water
Boil 1 tsp of coriander seeds in 1 cup of water for 5 minutes. Strain and sip slowly after meals.
Why it works: Coriander is cooling (sheetal) in nature and helps in reducing excess pitta (acidic heat).
Black Raisins (Munakka)
Soak 4-5 black raisins overnight and eat them in the morning on an empty stomach.
Why it works: Munakka is rich in alkaline minerals, which help neutralize excess acid and support smooth digestion.
Cardamom & Mishri Concoction
Boil 4 green cardamoms with a small piece of dhage wali mishri in a cup of water. Drink warm in the morning.
Note: Not recommended for diabetics.
Why it works: Cardamom is tridoshic (balances all doshas) and especially good at calming pitta, the fire element responsible for acidity.

Why You Shouldn’t Ignore Frequent Acidity
If acidity becomes chronic, it’s a sign your Agni (digestive fire) is imbalanced. Over time, this can lead to:
- Gastritis
- GERD (Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease)
- Ulcers in the stomach or intestine
- Chronic inflammation of the gut lining
- Nutritional deficiencies (due to poor absorption)
- Fatigue, irritability, and skin issues
- Increased risk of esophageal damage or even cancer in rare cases
Prevention is always better than cure. With consistent use of Ayurvedic home remedies and a mindful lifestyle, you can bring long-term relief and restore harmony to your body.
