Ayurvedic Potency of Plums (Aloo Bukhara)
In Ayurveda, plums are considered sweet and slightly astringent, with a cooling virya (potency). They are Pitta-pacifying, gently detoxifying, and help improve rakta dhatu (blood tissue), which directly reflects in clear, glowing skin.
- Rasa (Taste): Madhura (Sweet), Kashaya (Astringent)
- Virya (Potency): Sheeta (Cooling)
- Vipaka (Post-digestive effect): Madhura (Sweet)
- Effect on Doshas: Balances Pitta, mildly supports Kapha, may aggravate Vata in excess
Nutritional Benefits of Plums
Plums are tiny powerhouses of skin-loving nutrients:
- Vitamin C – Boosts collagen production, brightens skin
- Antioxidants – Neutralize free radicals and delay aging
- Fiber – Supports gut health, which reflects in clear skin
- Iron & Potassium – Improve blood circulation and oxygen supply to skin cells
- Beta-Carotene (Vitamin A) – Enhances skin renewal and radiance

Here’s a gentle, effective homemade face pack using fresh plums — perfect for dull, tired, or sun-exposed skin.
Ingredients:
- 2 ripe plums, peeled and mashed
- 1 tsp multani mitti (Fuller’s earth) – for detox
- 1 tsp rose water – for cooling and toning
- A pinch of turmeric – for antibacterial glow
- Optional: ½ tsp honey – for extra moisture (ideal for dry skin)
How to Use:
- Mix all ingredients into a smooth paste.
- Apply evenly to cleansed face and neck.
- Leave on for 10–12 minutes.
- Rinse off with cool water and pat dry.
- Finish with a light serum like Anammyaa Avocado Day Serum with sandalwood for long-lasting glow.
My Tip:
Eat a couple of fresh plums in the morning and apply the face pack once a week for radiant, naturally detoxed skin. Remember — skin is a reflection of what’s happening inside. Balance your Pitta, nourish your rakta, and let your glow be Ayurvedic!
